Chapter 19

The next day, even though he was pressed for time, Norman left work early to dispose of his “little problem.” He had to get Drew out of his house by the time Johnny Gellis showed up.

And so, after securing Simon Hebbard’s enthusiastic acceptance of this latest peace offering, he went up to the boy’s room to deliver the verdict.

Initially, Drew was disbelieving. “But Norman, I don’t even like Simon!”

And then he was disconsolate. “You’re not making this up! You’re serious, aren’t you? You’re letting me go! You’re throwing me away—and to somebody I can’t even stand!”

Next, he was demented. “You found somebody else, didn’t you? You found somebody with a big dick who’ll let you fuck him, didn’t you? You found somebody with a big, fat dick who’ll take it up the ass!”

Desperation followed. “Please tell me you didn’t, Norman. Please tell me it’s not somebody else. Not somebody like that.”

What else could Norman say? Under the circumstances, wasn’t the truth more merciful? The alternative was to tell him he was a lousy lay.

“All right, yes. I found somebody—somebody I’m interested in. But it’s not like you think. It doesn’t have anything to do with the size of his dick.”

That wasn’t exactly true, as far he knew, but it wasn’t entirely a lie, either. “That’s not what I’m looking for, Drew. I haven’t been on the prowl for a bottom with a big top. You’ve been more than satisfactory to me in that way, and you know it.”

As he talked, he rolled his neck around to loosen the kinks. “Honey, I just—I just want somebody … older, that’s all. I mean, somebody more mature. I’m—I’m tired of playing Daddy, Drew. I don’t know if you can even understand that—you’re just so young. But honestly, baby: what have we got in common? When do we ever talk? I mean, what can we even have a conversation about, besides sex? Huh? Can you honestly think of one thing?”

Giving him his tabula rasa stare, unwittingly Drew confirmed he couldn’t—which further eroded his cause—since all it did was offer still more irrefutable proof of his woeful intellectual inadequacy.

And so Norman, being Norman, stuck by his decision. And Drew, being Drew, did all he knew to do, besides beg: he bawled like a baby.

But this was one time when not even his egregious sobbing could budge his soon-to-be-ex off his high horse. Adamantly, he held fast in the saddle.

“Drew, it’s for the best. Simon’s wanted you for a long time—you know that. Besides, he may be an asshole, but he’ll be good to you. He likes what you got back there too much not to. It’s just me he hates—not you. And let’s face it, it could be worse: son, you got no business being out there on your own. Where would you go? What would you do? You got no skills, other than the very useful capacity to squeeze those sphincter muscles like a bitch in heat. I know what I’m doing, Drew. Trust me when I tell you, I’m feeding your ass to the right wolf.
